Don’t be Fooled by the “Quotes” “TR”: The DSM-5-TR is Far More Than a Text Revision

Presenter Bio

Dr. Greg Neimeyer is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at the University of Florida where he has been a faculty member in the Department of Psychology since graduating with his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Notre Dame.  A Fellow of the American Psychological Association, he is a recipient of its Award for Outstanding Contributions to Career and Personality Research.  Dr. Neimeyer has published over 200 scholarly articles, books and chapters, and worked in a wide variety of different practice settings, including at the Family Practice Medical Residency training program in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine at the University of Florida. Dr. Niemeyer’s outstanding teaching has been recognized by numerous teaching awards, culminating in his induction into the Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars.  He currently directs three offices at the American Psychological Association in Washington, DC including continuing education, life-long learning and inter- professional.

This workshop overviews the key diagnostic developments and departures of the DSM-5-TR in relation to its predecessor, the DSM-5. Marquis diagnostic developments in the Text Revision include the return of Mood Disorders, the inclusion of ICD-10 codes for Suicidal Behavior and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury, and the addition of Prolonged Grief Disorder, among others. These inclusions are joined by diagnostic revisions or clarifications to dozens of additional disorders, in addition to more comprehensive attention to issues of race, equity, and discrimination.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify at least three new inclusions in the DSM-5-TR
  2. Discuss the rationale for at least three of the diagnostic manual’s novel inclusions or revisions
  3. Compare and contrast the DSM-5-TR with the DSM-5 and the ICD-11

Once a course is selected in the KP NCAL MH Training Website, the registration process begins, and it will appear in the individuals KP Learn profile for completion within 90 days.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Those who attend the program in full and complete the appropriate evaluation form will receive CE credits. Please note that credit will only be granted to those who attend the entire program. An attestation of attendance will be given once the individual has completed viewing the program, which will then initiate the final steps of completing the evaluation forms to receive a certificate of completion.
