Jonah provides trainings to both clinicians and the general public around the United States and internationally and is a frequent media contributor on topics related to well-being and happiness

Although the field of clinical psychology has traditionally aimed to “fix what’s wrong,” the newer sub-field of positive psychology instead helps us to “build what’s strong.” In this seminar, attendees will learn about the nature of happiness, and discover research-backed methods from positive psychology to help lastingly increase happiness both in ourselves and in our clients. Part 1 of this 3-part series focuses on foundational elements of understanding well-being, including operationalizing the concept of happiness, exploring some of the barriers that get in the way, presenting the health benefits of increased well-being, and reviewing some of the key brain regions and systems related to the experience of happiness.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the key benefits of happiness to our physical health, emotional well-being, interpersonal relationships, and job performance
  2. Discuss the concept of the negativity bias, as it pertains to clients struggling with depression or anxiety
  3. Reference specific areas of the brain linked to positive emotional states, and learn techniques to increase neuronal firing to these regions in order to create lasting change through the process of positive neuroplasticity
