Ren Hong, PhD (he/him), a psychologist with a doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology, has made significant strides in the mental health field. Currently, he is leading pre-practicum training for the January 2025 Allied school cohort in the Counseling Center, providing supervision to doctoral and master’s level students, teaching didactics, and assisting in the development of didactic decks.
Ren’s journey into the mental health field began during his college years. Initially enrolled in IT courses, he found himself more intrigued by his marketing and management classes. This curiosity led him to take additional psychology classes as electives. Realizing his passion for psychology over coding, Ren made a pivotal career switch. Today, he uniquely integrates business technology and mental health, straddling two different worlds.
Ren’s favorite part of his job is the opportunity to innovate and engage in the fast-paced nature of organizational building and structural problem-solving. This aspect of his work activates a different side of his brain compared to conventional psychotherapy, allowing him to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Ren believes that people, regardless of their accolades or titles, are all susceptible to struggles, self-doubt, and blind spots. Recognizing this as a strength and an area for constant development, rather than a reflection of weakness, is a perspective he values deeply. This insight underscores his approach to mental health and organizational leadership.
In his free time, Ren enjoys international traveling. This hobby grounds him and provides a broader perspective outside of his usual environment, enriching both his personal and professional life.
Ren Hong’s journey and contributions to the mental health field highlight the importance of integrating diverse skills and perspectives, fostering innovation, and maintaining a compassionate understanding of human nature.
