Posttraumatic Growth: Possibilities for Transformation, Richard Tedeschi, PhD (Kaiser Permanente Employees and Current Trainees)

This presentation will provide a conceptual framework for how traumatic events can lead to positive change. Several types of posttraumatic growth will be described as well as the process by which it occurs. A case discussion of a traumatized child will be used to illustrate how to help facilitate the process of posttraumatic growth by being an expert companion.

  1. Define the concept of posttraumatic growth and its key features
  2. Describe the five types of posttraumatic growth and how to identify these in clients
  3. Utilize five phases of intervention to facilitate posttraumatic growth
