The Mental Health Training Program has launched an exciting new initiative this year—the Journal Club. Designed to ease the burden on local clinics while meeting the Research and Program Evaluation requirements set by the American Psychological Association, this program brings together over 30 psychology interns and residents from across Northern California.
Through the Journal Club, trainees have been engaging in deep exploration of clinical topics that matter most to the field of psychology. From post-partum mental health and adolescent substance use to child anxiety and the role of religion and spirituality in psychological well-being, participants have been critically evaluating seed articles and related literature.
Beyond analysis, trainees are applying their findings to real-world practice. They assess research methodologies, propose improvements to psychological care, and craft practical tools—smart phrases and informational flyers—to support clinical teams.
And here’s the best part: You’re invited! The trainees will be presenting their analyses and sharing the clinical tools they’ve developed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from mid-June through mid-August 2025. Join us and be part of this insightful discussion. More details can be found here.
As a bonus, psychologists renewing their licenses can apply their Journal Club reading and attendance hours toward Continuing Professional Development for their California Board of Psychology application.
We hope to see you there!
