This workshop presents best practices and evidence support for multicultural clinical supervision in the frame of cultural humility. Through lecture, reflection on video clips, and experiential exercises, participants will learn the complexity of the multiple components of supervisor competence and worldviews in clinical supervision. Review of regulations for clinical supervision will be provided. Emphasis is on strategies to enhance supervision, including multicultural identities and worldviews, establishing a relationship of cultural humility, planfully developing the supervisory relationship, identifying and repairing strains and ruptures, preventing inappropriate and inadequate supervision, which research has identified is occurring at high rates, introducing the supervision contract, goal and task setting, ensuring ongoing anchored feedback, identifying trauma and implementing trauma-informed supervision, managing countertransference and emotional reactivity, supporting self-care, and addressing ethical issues.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify three components of the definition of competency-based clinical supervision in a frame of cultural humility.
2. Demonstrate the learning cycle including self-assessment and reflection processes in a spirit of
cultural humility.
3. Describe how cultural humility applies to two aspects of clinical supervision
4. Identify two components of trauma-informed practice in a competency-based framework.
5. Describe two behavioral aspects indicative of a strain or rupture to the supervisory relationship
and how to address those with cultural humility.
6. Identify three aspects essential to the supervisory contract that address the importance of a
respectful process and practice.
7. List three ethical considerations that are essential to supervisory and clinical relationships
