This course will thoroughly cover contemporary approaches to “clinical suicidology” beginning with an overview of the clinical challenge and major conceptual models for understanding and caring for people who are suicidal. The course will focused on evidence-based approaches for suicide screening/assessment, acute interventions for stabilizing people who are suicidal, and clinical treatment related the causes of suicidal risk. There will be discussions of related policy developments and emerging innovations for effectively working with suicidal risk.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify and understand the major models for suicidal risk
- Use major screening and assessment approaches for suicidal risk
- Use stabilizing interventions for acute risk
- Identify the leading suicide-specific clinical treatments
- Describe major policy initiatives that are shaping contemporary clinical suicidology
