East Bay Consortium (Antioch, Pleasanton and Walnut Creek)
Pleasanton, a major suburb in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area, has a population of around 70,000 residents. The city lies adjacent to Livermore, Dublin, San Ramon and Danville and is part of the beautiful “Tri-Valley” area. Pleasanton has the best of both worlds; a small-town atmosphere within a large urban setting. Along with a top rated public school system, Pleasanton is known for its year round farmer’s markets, downtown concerts, and nearby Stoneridge mall, with many specialty shops and restaurants. With more than 1,200 acres of surrounding parks, open spaces, and trails, Pleasanton is a great community for outdoor enthusiasts, including hikers and cyclists. The area is also famous for its Livermore Valley Wine region and growing craft-brew scene.
The Pleasanton Department of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine is part of Kaiser Permanente’s Diablo Service Area. Our community is diverse and includes members of Asian/Pacific Islander, Asian Indian, Latino/a, and Caucasian ethnicities and cultures. Kaiser Permanente is a primary provider of medical services in the area; 87% of members have employer-sponsored health plans, 11% have Medicare, and 2% have Medi-Cal insurance plans. The department has three teams: Adult Services, Child/Family Services, and Addiction Medicine.
Program Curriculum
Program Evaluations
Each resident is required to undertake a program evaluation project during their training year. The project is selected based upon the resident’s interests and skill set and should fall within the regular scope of departmental services.
It may involve collecting and analyzing data to improve administrative operations, or a quality improvement project aimed at improving or assessing a treatment program or process. Examples include developing and evaluating a treatment group, intake procedure or other new programming; evaluating factors associated with treatment outcomes; or a needs assessment of a service that may be enriched by psychological consultation. Residents meet with the program evaluation supervisor as a group regularly over the course of the training year to review progress on their projects.

The Department of Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine at Kaiser Permanente Pleasanton has three teams: Adult Services, Child/Family Services, and Addiction Medicine. Within these services we offer individual, family, and group therapy, as well as medication management, Intensive Outpatient Services, and psychological assessment.
We are seeking bright, conscientious, and hardworking residents. We desire residents that enjoy working in a team atmosphere. We believe that residents who are flexible and assertive are the best fit for our site. Residents who can provide and receive constructive feedback are likely to benefit most from our program. We are eager to meet your training needs and help you grow into a practicing psychologist.

Specialty Tracks
General psychology and psychiatry population, co-occurring disorders with additional training in Addiction Medicine and Intensive Outpatient Programming. Potential training opportunities in Health Psychology/Behavioral Medicine.
Residents complete 3 weeks of orientation upon arrival at the clinic. During that time, they receive regional and site-specific trainings, as well as didactics from staff. Residents enjoy this time as this allows them to meet staff outside the training faculty and establish relationships with their colleagues.

The residency is at Pleasanton and does not include rotations at Antioch or Walnut Creek, two other sites in the Diablo Service Area. However, residents do attend weekly didactics and group supervision in Walnut Creek.
