Practicum Extern

Santa Rosa

The practicum program is at Kaiser Santa Rosa Neurology Department. The Adult Neuropsychology Service receives referrals from Neurology, General Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Psychiatry, Oncology, Infectious Diseases, and Geriatric Medicine. Referrals are complex, requiring assessment of differential diagnosis, documentation of cognitive status, and provision of treatment recommendations. The primary focus of training is general adult and geriatric neuropsychological evaluations, with opportunity for treatment and psychoeducation.

Patients referred to the Neuropsychology Service are 18 years of age or older with virtually all neurological conditions represented. Presenting conditions include brain injury, stroke, atypical dementia, neoplasm, movement disorders, and other general medical conditions.

Program Highlights

The Neurology Department represents a group of diverse and dynamic individuals. Providers, including MD’s are approachable and willing to be involved in every aspect of training. The general environment in the department is supportive and friendly.

Assessment is collaborative, with consultation and training available from staff neurologists, in addition to the primary supervising neuropsychologist. In addition to neuropsychological assessment, additional opportunities exist for shadowing neurologist performing medical exams, observing EEG exams, and accompanying on call staff for hospital consults.
