MHTP & Dozier Libbey Medical High School Mentorship Orientation

For the fourth consecutive year, the Mental Health Training Program (MHTP) has been proud to host a community mentoring program in collaboration with Dozier Libbey Medical High School in Antioch. This initiative, under the guidance of JEDI Officer Dr. Chinue Brown, saw Mental Health trainees from across Northern California come together for a comprehensive mentoring training and orientation session on January 31st. At this event, hosted by the Antioch Mental Health and Wellness Department led by Dr. Natasha Quackenbush, mentees—who are predominantly juniors and seniors from Dozier Libbey—had the opportunity to meet their mentors in person and tour an actual Mental Health and Wellness clinic.

The program is designed to give students invaluable exposure to the behavioral health profession. Mentors and mentees commit to meeting weekly over a 16-week period, fostering significant personal and professional growth. This year, the program successfully matched over 20 students with mentors. A primary goal of this initiative is to enhance awareness of mental health professions and the various rewarding career paths available in this critical field.
