Presenter Bio

Sandy Capaldi, Psy.D. is Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Associate Director, Clinical Director, & Director of Implementation at the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA). Since 2007, she has worked clinically and in research with OCD, PTSD, and other anxiety and related disorders at the CTSA. She is a licensed clinical psychologist who has a variety of clinical experiences with patient populations ranging from children to older adults and is certified by the CTSA as an Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD (Ex/RP) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD (PE) Therapist, Consultant, and Trainer. Dr. Capaldi also specializes in cognitive-behavioral treatment for trichotillomania, excoriation disorder, social anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia, specific phobias, generalized anxiety, and somatic symptom and related disorders. Her work has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, among others.

Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy for PTSD that has been found effective with a wide range of trauma populations. In this workshop, Dr. Sandy Capaldi will discuss the diagnosis of PTSD, how to identify clients who may be appropriate candidates for PE, and will introduce participants to emotional processing theory, the theory underlying PE.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify criterion A traumas and PTSD symptoms
  2. Identify appropriate candidates for PE therapy
  3. Discuss emotional processing theory as it relates to development, maintenance, and treatment of PTSD symptoms

Refund and Attendance Policy

All programs offered on KP Learn for CE credit through the KP Northern California Mental Health Training website are free of charge to Kaiser Permanente Staff and trainees. Once a course is selected in the KP NCAL MH Training Website, the registration process begins, and it will appear in the individuals KP Learn profile for completion within 90 days.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Those who attend the program in full and complete the appropriate evaluation form will receive CE credits. Please note that credit will only be granted to those who attend the entire program. An attestation of attendance will be given once the individual has completed viewing the program, which will then initiate the final steps of completing the evaluation forms to receive a certificate of completion.
