Presenter Bio

Daniel O. Taube earned his JD/PhD from Villanova University and Hahnemann University (1985 and 1987, respectively) and is Professor Emeritus at the California School of Professional Psychology, Alliant International University, San Francisco. He is currently a member of The American Insurance Trust’s Risk Management team and regularly consults across the country with a wide range of practitioners and community agencies regarding standards of practice and ethical concerns.

The purpose of this course is to give BHPs an opportunity to renew and sharpen their ability to engage in knowledgeable and effective ethical decision-making in clinically challenging situations, and to understand and apply ethical and legal standards to their clinical work. The course also has the goal of assisting participants in better managing the risks of clinical practice. It will be taught at an intermediate level and is appropriate for currently licensed professionals and advanced pre-licensed professionals. This course fulfills the 4 hour Board of Psychology’s mandated ethics and law update requirement, 4 of the 6 hours required biannually for BBS licensees and exceeds the BBS yearly 3-hour update requirement for associates.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe two changes in licensing requirements under the BBS and BOP
  2. List three clarifications of California child abuse and elder abuse reporting standards
  3. Identify three methods for ethically navigating suicide risk
  4. Distinguish three key steps in addressing risks in discharging the duty to protect
