Presenter Bio

Robin moved to Imperial College London in 2008 after obtaining a PhD in Psychopharmacology from the University of Bristol. He has designed human brain imaging studies with LSD, psilocybin, MDMA and DMT, and several clinical trials of psilocybin therapy for severe mental illnesses, including depression and anorexia. Robin founded the Centre for Psychedelic Research at Imperial College London in April 2019. He was awarded the Ralph Metzner Distinguished Professorship in Neurology and Psychiatry in 2021, University of California, San Francisco. Robin was named among the top 31 medical scientists in 2020 and in TIME magazine’s ‘100 Next’ in 2021.

This course will address the science of psychedelic drugs, their action in the brain and their therapeutic application and action in mental healthcare. It will review scientific research involving human brain imaging as well as clinical trials of psychedelic therapy for a variety of psychiatric illnesses.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

Describe the basic pharmacological action of psychedelics drugs.
Analyze the difference between classic psychedelic drugs like LSD and other compounds, like MDMA and ketamine
Discuss the latest evidence for the therapeutic potential of psychedelics in psychiatry.
Explain when to anticipate the potential FDA approval of treatments such as MDMA-therapy for PTSD and psilocybin-therapy for depression.

Once a course is selected in the KP NCAL MH Training Website, the registration process begins, and it will appear in the individuals KP Learn profile for completion within 90 days.

Please note that credit will only be granted to those who attend the entire program. An attestation of attendance will be given once the individual has completed viewing the program, which will then initiate the final steps of completing the evaluation forms to receive a certificate of completion.
