Evaluating and Treating OCD
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric disorder involving development of unwanted intrusive thoughts, images, or impulses (obsessions) and compensatory behaviors aimed at reducing the related distress (compulsions). In this workshop, Dr. Sandy Capaldi will provide instruction in the diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and the theoretical underpinnings of Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP), an evidence-based treatment for OCD symptoms. The primary treatment components of EX/RP (psychoeducation, response prevention, in vivo exposure, and imaginal exposure) will be introduced and practical applications of these components discussed.
