After moving to the United States, Dr. Wetzler embarked on a career change, earning her MFT before continuing on towards her PsyD from CSPP. She has had many roles within The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG), both at Kaiser Permanente’s Vallejo Medical Center and then with the Northern California Mental Health Training Program. She completed her postdoctoral residency with the Adult Services Team in KP Vallejo, followed by working in the Emergency and Consultation Liaison Service for three years before returning to the Adult Services Team as a psychologist. Dr. Wetzler has been involved in mental health training since 2008, first serving as the Vallejo Training Director and then the North Bay Consortium Director.
Since 2016, Dr. Wetzler has served as the Director for Mental Health Training across Northern California, where she has focused on increasing the quality and size of our training programs across the region. With quality in mind, she has ensured that all eligible doctoral training programs have received APA accreditation, while also ensuring that all programs abide by the highest of standards in the field. Dr. Wetzler has also increased the visibility and attractiveness of the KP mental health training programs through targeted outreach, worked to reduce the footprint of our training programs on our medical centers through the utilization of technology, and increased efforts pertaining to equity, inclusion, and diversity.
In Dec 2020, in response to the need for future training of the Mental Health Scholars Program students, Dr. Wetzler developed an innovative solution to the complex training needs of the scholars. She developed the “clinic within a clinic” counseling center model that allows flexibility in training for the KP employees who are retraining as Mental Health therapists. Dr. Wetzler successfully lobbied for support of the idea from senior leadership and the first clinic started operations in January of 2022. When fully operational the counseling centers will have over 20 dedicated staff and approximately 90 scholars and Allied Health MFT students per year.

Jefferey Chen-Harding, LCSW
Clinical Supervisor
Jeffery Chen-Harding (he/him) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a B.A. in English from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine obtained in 1993. I got my Master of Social Work degree at San José State University in 2003 and earned my license in 2008. I studied history and literature for a year in Santiago, Chile in 1996 and I am fluent in Spanish.
I have worked at Kaiser since 2017, doing individual and group psychotherapy as well as the Intensive Outpatient Program and triage offering services in both English and Spanish as a Qualified Bilingual Services clinician. I began at the Kaiser Department of Psychiatry in San Francisco and started with the Northern California Mental Health Training Program (MHTP) in February of 2026. Here at MHTP, I am one of the trainers in the Bilingual (Spanish) Specialty training track and also in the Trauma Specialization focusing on exposure-oriented therapies such as Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Written Exposure Therapy. Before Kaiser I worked at other community agencies such as Institute on Aging and On Lok Senior Health in San Francisco as well as at the UCSF/SFGH Trauma Recovery Center in the Mission District of San Francisco. My interests especially include working transculturally with members of Latinx cultures, older adults, and the broad field of trauma and trauma-focused therapies. In terms of my own approach to therapy, I mostly work within the cognitive behavioral tradition, drawing largely on an approach known as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). This approach recognizes the way that the human mind treats normal and inevitable aspects of life such as sadness and anxiety as problems to be avoided and controlled rather than meaningful experiences that come with a full life. I live with my family in San Francisco, have a small private practice, and love exploring both the urban and wild parts of the Bay Area and northern California in general.
