MHTP Launches Expanded Didactics and Specialty Training Offerings

The Mental Health Training Program (MHTP) is proud to kick off its expanded curriculum for the 2025–2026 training year! This year’s enhancements include a more comprehensive didactic series and an increased number of specialty trainings, all designed to elevate the learning experience for our trainees.

MHTP currently supports nearly 400 emerging mental health professionals across 21 Northern California medical centers and the Kaiser Permanente Counseling Center. Our cohorts include Pre-Master’s Interns, Post-Master’s Fellows, Doctoral Interns, and Postdoctoral Residents, representing a range of educational backgrounds and clinical experience.

Building on a Strong Foundation

Following the rollout of a standardized curriculum last year, this year’s programming builds on that foundation with enhanced evidence-based training.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Unified Protocol (UP)
  • Modular Approach to Therapy for Children (MATCH)
  • Managing and Adapting Practice (MAP)
  • Psychopharmacology
  • Addiction Medicine Recovery Services
  • Leadership
  • Supplemental Adult & Pediatric Assessment

Expanded Specialty Training Offerings

MHTP has grown its specialty training portfolio to include seven distinct offerings:

  • Bariatric Assessment Training

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Training
  • Implementation Science
  • Gender Health Competency Training

  • Trauma Training, with three modalities to choose from:

    • Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
    • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Commitment to Excellence

A key strength of MHTP is its collaborative curriculum development process, led by clinical supervisors and program leadership. These workgroups ensure the curriculum remains evidence-based, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with accreditation standards. Alongside this, MHTP continues to refine its data collection and reporting systems around program attendance and evaluations, turning insights into meaningful improvements in training quality.

As we begin the new training year, MHTP remains committed to delivering a high-quality training experience, while actively incorporating feedback to evolve and prepare the next generation of mental health professionals with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive.
