Ren Hong, PhD (he/him) first received his BBA in Management Information Systems from The University of Texas at Austin. After working in the world of IT, he concluded that he preferred the intricacies of human behavior over computer programming. This led to a career shift where he pursued the vocational discipline of psychology and completed his PhD in Counseling Psychology at Oklahoma State University.
He joined Kaiser Permanente in 2017 at the Modesto Psychiatry Department. During his time there with Adult Services, he provided individual psychotherapy to treat mental health disorders and conducted psychological testing for ADHD, diagnostic clarification, and cognitive screening. He also held various roles in that clinic such as the Feedback Informed Care Champion, Leadership Professional Practices Committee (LPPC) member, and clinical supervisor.
Due to his background in both business technology and psychology, Dr. Hong has joined the NCAL Mental Health Training Program as a liaison between clinical training and the emerging field of Artificial Intelligence, seeking to harness new technology to continue developing a robust training experience for novice and seasoned psychotherapists alike. Additional areas of continued professional interest include leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and consultation, which Dr. Hong intends to further advance within MHTP.
