Meet Claudine Ronquillo, APCC: A Rising Clinician

Claudine Ronquillo, APCC (she/her), is a dedicated mental health professional and graduate of Palo Alto University, where she earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her journey into the mental health field is deeply rooted in personal experience, resilience, and a commitment to helping others feel seen and understood.

A Passion Inspired by Personal Experience

Claudine’s interest in mental health began during her teenage years, when she participated in outpatient individual and group therapy at Kaiser Permanente in Union City. Reflecting on that time, she credits therapy with transforming her life and perspective.

The relationships she formed during therapy—both with her clinicians and peers—were pivotal. “It made me realize that all I needed was to feel understood,” she shares. These experiences ultimately inspired her to return to Kaiser as a clinician, driven by a desire to create the same meaningful impact for others.

She emphasizes the power of vulnerability and human connection, noting that being seen and heard can be profoundly healing.

Growth Through Training and Support

As a new clinician, Claudine initially faced the challenges common to early career professionals, including feelings of intimidation and imposter syndrome. Surrounded by more experienced colleagues, she navigated both successes and missteps that contributed to her growth.

Her experience in Kaiser Permanente’s Mental Health Training Program (MHTP), however, provided a strong foundation of support and encouragement. She highlights the importance of a positive work environment, noting that she felt an “overwhelming amount of support, care, and compassion.”

Through mentorship from clinical supervisors, managers, and peers, Claudine developed confidence in her abilities and learned the critical importance of self-care in a demanding field.

“Therapists are human too,” she explains. “It’s essential to care for ourselves the same way we care for others.”

Life Beyond the Profession

Outside of her professional work, Claudine maintains a vibrant and well-rounded life. She enjoys traveling with her family and has visited 21 countries so far. Her interests also include attending concerts—particularly pop and R&B—exploring new restaurants with friends, and rating matcha drinks from local cafés.

In addition, she spends her free time journaling, creating DIY lip gloss charms, and playing the piano, all of which support her creativity and personal well-being.

Looking Ahead

Claudine recently achieved an exciting milestone: she was offered a permanent position as an Associate Masters Mental Health Professional at Kaiser Permanente. She credits her training in the MHTP for preparing her for this next step and feels optimistic about her future.

With a strong foundation and a passion for continued growth, Claudine looks forward to advancing on her path toward licensure and continuing to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
